Sentencing Guidelines My system’s sentencing guidelines vary from number of crimes to the type of crime whether it is a misdemeanor of felony. The severity of the crime will raise the sentencing crime to help instill punishment and to be used as a deterrence method from future crime. Kentucky State Institute will adhere and follow the guidelines of the 2016 United States Sentencing Commission Guidelines Manual. This manual will ensure equal sentencing is given to each offender equally and no one will be favored or discriminated based on religion, race, culture religion or any other variables. The guidelines books breaks down suggested sentencing times for offenders that then are given to the judge. The manual is on a number scale and a range based on the crime will be given to the judge. The judge must then choose an amount of time in that given range to sentence the offender. Misdemeanors will be punishable up to one year in jail and fines can be attached. Class A misdemeanors will be punishable up to twelve months and a possible fine of up to $1000. Class B misdemeanors will be punishable by up to 6 months in jail and a possible fine of $500. I have raised the fines for the misdemeanors because I believe it will be a greater deterrent for future misdemeanor crimes. Felonies will be punishable by one year or more in prison, which follows the basic Kentucky guidelines and all felonies will mandate a set fine between $1,000 and $15,000 based on income and net worth, which…
