In Fahrenheit 451 media is used to brainwash its people. Attention is taken away from real problems and radios are used to escape reality. Today, celebrities and useless news are plastered in front of our faces whether at the checkout lines, on TV, or on our phones. You can’t help but wonder what the media is attempting to divert our attention away from. Like in Fahrenheit 451, all we have to do is plug in our earphones to escape reality. We’ve become so caught up in media and what the latest celebrity buzz is, that we’ve lost our natural curiosity and fascination of the world resulting in a dumber generation. 1984 displays a more practical turn that society may take. In the book, everyone is monitored constantly to scope out the transgressors of that dystopia, which is exactly what happens in our society on a regular basis. Phones are being tapped. Our computers are being hacked. Surveillance cameras are set up everywhere in the public to monitor every move we make. I thoroughly believe it’s only a matter of time before our privacy is completely obliterated by government. 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 both exhibit similar and contrasting aspects, it wouldn’t be surprising if their dystopia’s features were implemented in our society
