Everyone grows up with someone they look up to and want to be like, admiring someone's clothes, jobs, and personalities. People strive to be like other people, lusting over what they don’t have. The natural human brain mimics subconsciously the behavior of people and their attitudes that are higher than others. Humans see someone who is successful, and feel inspired to a point in which an individual may decide to copy and reflect their choices. Razumihin is translated directly to sense or rationality. He portrays a direct and important factor in Raskolnikov's uncontrolled and differentiating personality. He is the one character that knows Raskolnikov best and can see him clearly, “Raskolnikov’s burning and intent eyes grew more penetrating every moment, piercing into his soul, into his consciousness. Suddenly Razumihin started. Something strange, as it were passed between them... Some idea, some hint as it were, slipped, something awful, hideous, and suddenly understood on both sides... Razumihin turned pale” (Dostoevsky 345; Pt III; ch.3). His clear headedness and level minded way about him causes him to see Raskolnikov’s sin of murder but also his good and kind hearted side. He is able to see the side of Raskolnikov that others cannot, “He is kind and generous. He doesn't like to display his feelings, and would rather seem heartless than talk about them” (230; Pt IV;ch.4).
