The first day of international week at SUU the film “A Prince among Slaves” was presented. The film followed the life of Abdul Rahman, a Muslim prince in Africa whom was captured by a rival tribe and sold to British slave traders. He was sold as a slave to Thomas Foster in Mississippi. Abdul Rahman, or “Prince” tries to escape but the environment is harsh, he returns to the Foster plantation. This film followed people in disguise going to the Ivory Coast in Africa where child labor is used for the chocolate plantations. In the film, they go to chocolate plantations where they find children working for no wage. In addition, they see children who are lured into thinking they will make money and brought across the border to the plantations. Children who escaped share their stories, and reveal the cruelty and harshness the children face in the plantations. This film teaches its viewers that there is still forced child labor, and that that child labor is used for items that the average person consumes regularly, such as
