In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the timeline of events is cohesive with the plot which in turn allows for the audience to easily comprehend the theme of Macbeth: power is corruptive. Macbeth is a tragedy written by Shakespeare. In the beginning on Macbeth’s way home from a victory he and Banquo run into three witches that tell him he will be named Thane of Cawdor and King and that Banquo will be father t a long line of kings. Then a messenger of King Duncan of Scotland, Ross, pops up and tells Macbeth that he has been named Thane of Cawdor. After Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth about the prophecies, Lady Macbeth’s ambition drives her to urge Macbeth to murder King Duncan when he visits. Macbeth chooses to murder the King and Queen. But be the serpent under 't,” (1.5.73-78) When Lady Macbeth says this it influences Macbeth to murder the king and queen, which shows his weak mindedness, because he allowed Lady Macbeth to get into his head and convince him to go against the norm and his morals all because Lady Macbeth was corrupted by the idea of power. Another way the weak mindedness of Macbeth is shown is because usually during Elizabethan era and before and after the Elizabethan era women were considered as less than men. With this being said, the fact that he allowed a woman to get into his head shows how easily influenced Macbeth was as well by the idea of power. Yet, as mentioned before the Macbeths were fairly well off, and they already had a relatively good amount of power. But along with Macbeth being easily influenced and both his greed and Lady Macbeth’s greed for more power drove him to murder the king and the queen as well. Lady Macbeth

When Lady Macbeth says this it eggs Macbeth on to go forward with the, “unnatural deed,” and allows him to believe that he needs to have more power and status than he already does. The greed and hunger that the Macbeths have for status and power is what ultimately leads to each of their downfall, as well as the losses that the rest of the community has to take. One of the effects of all the bloodshed that was caused at the hands of the Macbeths, was the mental health of both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Macbeth experienced so much anxiety that he began to see Banquo’s spirit after he had him murdered. There were a many occasions after he murdered King Duncan and the Queen where he experienced hallucinations due to severe anxiety that caused him to lose his head. Macbeth acknowledges that he is out of his mind when he says,
“If good, why do I yield to that suggestion?
Whose horrid image doth unfix my hair?
And make my seated heart knock at my
