I read The Rule of Three by Eric Walters. In my opinion, the topic of this book is conflict. Throughout the story, the characters Herb, Adam, Lori, and Todd all face countless examples of conflicts and work to resolve them. Some examples of conflict are the mysterious loss of power, violent criminals, and the need of supplies. One of the biggest examples of conflict is the mysterious lose of power.…
When the Emperor was Divine The internment of thousands of Japanese families and people in general was a symbol of not only the oppression of a mass of people but also of the growing trend throughout the ages of the same type of war-time oppression. Throughout history, people have been being taken forcibly from their homes and placed in precarious and quite uncomfortable situations just for the sake of people’s “safety”. Although, it was typically only in times of war, it still had an impact on people even after their return from internment camps.…
As winter has ended, the zombies throughout the northern part of the nation have thawed out and dangers are greater than ever. Pre-war movie producer, Roy Elliot, recognized a problem that many Americans have lost hope in winning this war, a specific disorder called Asymptomatic Demise Syndrome, or Apocalyptic Despair Syndrome. He has taken it upon himself to fix said psychological problem. Elliot has made multiple movies depicting true American spirit, never giving up, even when times get tough. The responses of the various war scenes in the first movie did not show to be successful.…
World War I was one of the deadliest wars in human history, killing sixteen million soldiers alone, with a total of thirty seven million casualties including civilians. Mankind has been shaped by war throughout its existence. War can vary with type such as guerrilla or nuclear warfare. However, one aspect of war that remains the same is its ability to lay waste to all in its path. War has killed, not only the promising young men and women, but it has killed their dreams and goals.…
There are many television shows that show war and combat. Many people watch these shows without any thought about it. However, war is not how the media depicts it. In Erich Remarque’s novel, All Quiet On the Western Front, main character Paul Baumer describes war as a place where “if your own father came over with [the enemy] you would not hesitate to fling a bomb at him”(Remarque 114). While in war, soldiers begin to believe in killing more than they believe in family.…

Annie is not ready to see the bomb explode. She has been skirting around the battlefield that others call “grade twelve” for the past year, and now, her fighting is about to pay off. She bites her tongue and hesitates to point the gun once she sees the flashing number “one” on the screen. She was not ready for this war, but she has to fight, or else her peers would consider her a fallen comrade. All of the science lessons, the math tests, and the late-night study sessions have paved a path to this moment.…
Ever played a dangerous game? Richard Connell’s short story “The Most Dangerous Game” expresses several literary terms throughout the story, using interesting writing techniques to captivate the reader. This narrative of danger and excitement includes three important literary terms: plot, suspense, and conflict. Connell does a fantastic job of employing these terms, leaving the reader on the edge of their seat the entire time.…
“It was a death bed for many of my close friends. It was almost like volunteering to die. But it was had to be done.” The mood never changed, along with the sky, all things seemed to always be grey. Being alive for World War ll was not an option for a kid who is seventeen years old right now, but the hero’s who survived the tragic event are all around us.…
The passage that encapsulates the book best is “I am young, I am twenty years old; yet I know nothing of life but despair, death, fear, and fatuous superficiality cast over an abyss of sorrow. I see how peoples are set against one another, and in silence, unknowingly, foolishly, obediently, innocently slay one another.” I have heard it mentioned that only wars in the last one hundred years that were worth fighting were World War I and World War II. No matter if that is true or not the ideas of this book ring true. Which is the people involved in the actual combat of the war is that their lives are changed forever, regardless if they are killed, maimed, or only psychologically harmed.…
This shows how harmful the war was to the soldier’s psyche, where all feeling seemed to become more intense and cause them to act rashly and try and control their…
The word “truth” can be defined as factual data, individual perspectives, shared experiences, universal dictums, beliefs, etc. The definition of truth is complex which makes defining truths of war problematic. Three works used to define the many truths of war were, Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, and Francis Ford Coppola’s movie Apocalypse Now. Out of the numerous truths of war that were identified in all three of these works, two truths were chosen to be presented. Those two truths that are seen frequently throughout the novel are war is chaotic and it changes people.…
The Most Dangerous Game; Conflicts of Story Writing Some people ask what makes a story so good. Well, the answer is conflicts. Conflicts give the story a purpose; a thrill of action. The best stories have all three conflicts, man versus man, man versus self, and man versus nature.…
The Basement Humans are made for battle, some psychological, others more physical. We are born into a broken world where battles are what we know best, but they aren’t the only thing we know. We also have an undenying will to survive even though sometimes we fail to acknowledge its presence. The fact is, without survival there can’t be another battle. So one after the other, we continue to struggle through whatever life, or in some cases death, has to throw at us.…
Through literature, the trauma of conflict can be processed more easily. Using any form, Literature can provide a blank canvas to offload burdening thoughts, emotions and to simplify and accept traumatic experiences related to conflict.
