There was no choice to go, no way to get out of it. It was almost a tradition, the past three fathers in the Newpower family have been in a war or in the service. He was put into one of the most daring raids many Americans remember. It is known as D-Day. Several soldiers rode boats across the straight to the beaches of Normandy. “I have never seen so many grown men scared for their lives, but they had a right to be.” Standing in a boat filled with puke from his fellow soldiers, and himself, they waited for the door to drop and to storm the beach known as Omaha Beach. The door dropped, and almost instantly, all the soldiers did too. Not many men were even able to make it off of the boat alive, but he did. He and what was left of his troop from the boat, made their way up Omaha Beach alongside multiple other boats filled with ally troops. “You think you have had an ugly view before? You should have seen what we had to look at for countless hours!” To this day William has no idea how they managed to somewhat successfully storm that beach, but they did what they were ordered to do.
