“They left all the weak ones here.” (Steinbeck 77) Of Mice and Men was written by John Steinbeck and was published in 1936. Of Mice and Men is set in the 1930’s in California during the great depression after the stock market crash of 1929. The novel is about two friends, George and Lennie, Lennie has a mental disorder and can not take care of himself and George who is the person that takes care of Lennie. George does not like having to take care of Lennie he wants to be able to off and do his own thing which he can not do because he always has to take care of Lennie. George and Lennie are traveling around California looking for work on ranches so that they can save up enough money to be able to start their own ranch. In the novel Of Mice and Men there are many impairments that the characters must deal with. These characters include Lennie, Crooks, Candy and Curley’s wife. One of these characters with impairments is Lennie. Lennie is Mentally slow and does not know his own strength. Lennie also does not understand that he is hurting people when he actually is. Lennie seems very harmless to most people when actually he can be very dangerous. An example of this impairment is when Lennie says “I ain’t got nothing” (Steinbeck 5) Lennie is saying this because Lennie has a dead mouse in his pocket that he accidentally killed even though Lennie thought he was being gentle with the mouse. An example when this impairment is seen is when Lennie kills a puppy that George gives him.…
