The women that were a part of a group for women's right to vote, were protesting peacefully for their right to vote, for their equality to men. They were expressing the fact that they deserved the same rights as men, being citizens of the United States. The women there were peacefully protesting, and no one was harmed by their picketing. They have the right to assembly and the right of speech, according to the first Amendment of the Constitution, and were not breaking and serious laws other than maybe blocking the street. They were expressing that they deserved equal rights as men did because they were citizens of the United States as well as men. They were beaten and torchered by the guards, specifically W.H. Whittaker, which was unlawful at the time and is inhumane. They were denied medical care and were served rotten food, as well as food with worms. The women were arrested and imprisoned many times before, but this time was by far worse than the others. The women did not deserve to be beaten and tortured, the punishment definitely did not fit the “crime” committed by these
