Good nutrition plays a positive role in good health, self-sufficiency, and quality of life. An individual’s dietary intake will be affected as they undergo changes in their lives and move from one stage of life to the next. A child 's diet and nutrition is a growing concern. The wrong approach to food can give children mixed messages about proper nutrition and lead to serious problems later. Parents are solely responsible for children 's poor eating habits. Prevalence of childhood obesity is increasing and obese children are at a much higher risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular risk factors.
Health and nutrition can be influenced by several factors such as family, friends, and peers as well as physical and mental stress. “As a young child, the immediate family is the biggest influence on nutrition because they are the first role models and establish the initial habits that the individual will develop” (Hindawi, 2012). Through daily meal plans given to children, they can develop a standard of care in regard to nutrition and then incorporate key food groups into their daily diet. A child’s exposure to cooking habits and nutrition values could significantly contribute to the overall health and well being of the child in their later years. Therefore a person’s eating habits can affect their weight and well being. A child’s view on nutrition changes over time through knowledge gained about food and its nutrition.
