Tyco executives took monetary rights away from shareholders, which is considered illegal and unethical. HealthSouth can be seen as unethical under the Rights theory as they failed to provide investors with their right to access materially accurate information. Under Rights theory Nimble’s customers should have had the right to take out loans with the proper guidance of professional judgement and advice, which was not provided to them. The scandals have occurred from unethical culture in all three companies and a key lesson to be learned is that businesses need to implement the right tone at the top and can ensure this with ethics training and programs.
