Tarbox, Ghezzi, and Wilson (2006) examined the effects of token reinforcement on attending in a young child with autism. During baseline, the subject worked with a tutor at the beginning of each trial. The tutor prompted the subject using eye contact about 5 seconds, including leaning towards the subject and finger prompting pointing at the subject’s eyes and back to theirs. If the subject made correct eye contact it was scored at 3 seconds within 5-second chances. If the subject failed to make the correct eye contact within the duration, it was also scored and a vocal prompt “look at me” was then added the same duration remained if this failed a second vocal prompt was then delivered.
