Yann Martel structured this book with short chapters filled with tons of knowledge about the Hindu, Islamic and Christian religious beliefs. In Chapter 16, as Pi states, “We are all born like Catholics, aren’t we---in limbo, without religion, until some figure introduces us to God?” (Martel 47). The person the author of the book uses to introduce the main character to God is his Auntie Rohini. She introduced him to Hindu, which helped Pi see his faith in God. Kumar, “Religion will save us” (Martel 27), when they were talking about the politics in the world. Mr. Kumar shared an opposite opinion, he told Pi, “There are no grounds for going beyond a scientific explanation of reality and no sound reason for believing anything but our sense experience. A clear intellect, close attention to detail and a little scientific knowledge will expose religion as a superstitious bosh. God does not exist.” (Martel 27).
