Leading Change Cohen (2016) says it very well, “It takes courage to let go of the familiar and embrace the new”. Sometimes it is taking the step to embrace something new that brings about challenge and happiness and yes some fear. Change is happening all around us in our personal lives and in our professional lives. Sometimes the change is an individual making that choice for change in their life and often times, change happens around us and is not a choice. Just saying the word “change” often cause uneasiness and brings thoughts of the unknown to most of us. However, most people would agree, that change is good such as new relationships, moving into a new homes, marriage or even having children. All this change is good, so why is …show more content…
The CEO, Martin Thomas, has decided that it is time to change the culture in his business and thought the book “Fish” would be a great starting point. He has asked his key leaders to review the book and implement the fish philosophy within their department and report back in a month regarding progress of this change. When the leaders reported back, the change had not been welcomed and had even heard from some that the change would not work in their organizations and or could not get the energy around the initiative to successfully implement the …show more content…
The model also provides direction for prepping the audience for the change, support through implementation, and steps for sustaining the change (Spencer, 2005).
Implementing Change
First and the foremost thing that is essential in implementation of any change are having good communication and having a plan around the change which would resemble the following under the ADKAR model:
Awareness:
– Set up time with key leaders to discuss why the change is needed in the organization
– Discuss your insights on the book
– Collaborate with the group how to implement the change
– Discuss a problem statement and define your change management strategy and team
Desire:
– Value add in the adoption of Fish Philosophy
– Obtaining buy in and support
– Understanding roadblocks
– Appointing change management champion o Create sub-group which would aid in the influencing others
