Although Athens was ruled by tyrants for many years, Cleisthenes was able to break that chain through his unique way of thinking. Cleisthenes believed that relief of oppression by the government, prevention of tyranny, and people’s participation and contribution to the community were essential in the process of turning a corrupted Greek government system into a democratic society. Cleisthenes was raised to be an aristocrat, but he did not think like the rest. Athenian people suffered under the rule of tyrant leaders, people’s economic conditions dropped constantly. During Hippias’ ruling period, Cleisthenes observed how the Athenian government used its power unjustly and oppressively against its own people.…
Joseph Campbell’s definition of the hero’s journey can be directly applied to Gilgamesh’s story even though some may not consider him to be a hero. Gilgamesh proves to be unworthy of the title “hero” at the beginning of the story, but once Enkidu arrives, they perform heroic acts together. Departure, fulfillment, and return are the three steps that Joseph Campbell considers to be the hero’s act which is all part of the hero’s journey. In the epic Gilgamesh, Enkidu and Gilgamesh follow these steps by leaving to kill the infamous Humbaba; the enormous beast that terrorizes all of mankind and is considered to be an enemy. In a way, Enkidu makes Gilgamesh into a hero by taming his aggressive side and translating that aggression onto these quests…

In the judgment of hammurabi, Hammurabi made laws also known as the code of hammurabi. Which weren't exactly laws, but a compilation of decisions and it was created as a response to cases and incidents that seemed unfair. The code of hammurabi promotes justice and equal treatment to all people. The principles of the judgement of hammurabi seem to have been “an eye for an eye” “a tooth for a tooth”, which means if a person hurts someone they will receive a punishment to the same degree . Some evidence that proves that this was the principles of the judgment of hammurabi is law number 196 and 200 which says, “If a man has destroyed the eye of another free man, his own eye shall be destroyed”and “If a man has knocked out the teeth of a man of…

Even though, there are countless similarities between the two stories in a broad perspective, there have a lot of moral and social differences which strongly distinguish them from each other. Nonetheless, they share a similar fixation…

In The Republic of Plato, Plato considers the nature and value of justice and the other virtues as they appear in both the structure of society as a whole and in the personality of an individual human being. This city-soul analogy supplies Plato with a metaphoric language that enables him to describe aspects of the structure and dynamics of the human soul. He began with a detailed analysis of the formation, structure, and organization of an ideal state before applying its results to a description of personal life. This paper will explore how the Republic uses the description of an ideal city-state as a vehicle for explaining the harmonious operation of the human psyche, which can be likened to a city. This “psychopolis” can be well or poorly…
