Even though Amir and Hassan grew up together and are related, they are very different. When Amir wanted a new and better kite, Baba got one for Hassan as well. Baba always tried to invite Hassan along with him and Amir when they go out. He even payed for Hassan to get plastic surgery to remove his cleft lip. Baba treated Hassan as if he liked him more than he loved Amir and that made Amir jealous.
