Deceitful Actions of a Young Girl In the play, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, a seventeen-year-old girl named Abigail Williams leads a group of girls to wrongfully accuse innocent people and have them killed just because they disliked them. These trials were later known as the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Abigail Williams was deceitful and dishonest with her false accusations. She accuses Elizabeth Proctor out of lust and greed to take her place as partner of John Proctor. She created chaos in the town of Salem. Abigail Williams took joy from the witch trials, presenting an innocent character to others; despite being dishonest, selfish, and lustful while not caring about innocent human lives. Abigail Williams was attracted through lust towards John Proctor, which caused her to make bad decisions. Abigail wept, “John-I am waitin’ for you every night” (21). Abigail wants John Proctor to continue the affair with her. Abigail thinks she loves John, but only has an interest in him for the affair. John denies Abigail, “Abby, you’ll put it out of mind. I’ll not be comin’ for you more” (21). John declares that he has no interest in Abigail and will never again have an affair with …show more content…
She used people to get her way and got more popular as the Salem Witch Trials grew larger. Her lust, selfishness, and dishonesty disconnected her from a normal life. She made complete inaccurate accusations against innocent citizens of Salem. Her lust led her to get Elizabeth Proctor arrested and John Proctor, her lover, hanged. Abigail’s selfishness to get her way got many people arrested. She went far enough to threaten innocent people’s life just to get her way. Abigail’s dishonesty got her through the Salem Witch Trials safely. She built her image to look good in front of many people that believed her. It seemed as if Abigail was happy for the Salem Witch Trials to continue and get more people arrested and
