This group focused mainly on the education of children. Religion was also an important part of this movement as well. Turning away from Christianity during this time, many riots began to form. Rioting began to decrease into the 1970s, with the Civil Rights Movement coming to an end. The Black Panthers movement relied more on Democracy and more and more black individuals became politicians. Some activist turned away from non-violence, during this time period. A good example, is Gloria Steinem, a prominent leading political and Civil Right's Activist. She was a woman of great honor. Steinem was a very courageous woman who fought for equal rights for ALL women. She supported the proposed amendment that stated, "equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex" (333). She simply believed that everyone should be treated equal and believed that men should not be treated superior over women.
