Hamlet’s Insanity There have been many arguments as to if Hamlet is insane or not. This is a topic that a lot of people have concerns about. Some believe that Hamlet has always been insane because he has really negative thoughts in his own soliloquy when he is talking to himself. Others say that he was never insane at all and he was just acting it all out as a part of his plan that nobody could know of. At the beginning of the play, Hamlet does not seem to have any negative thoughts about himself. Hamlet has a positive attitude for the most part he seems to be normal and does not have any big problem with anyone. He was acted as a normal person throughout the very beginning of the play it was just a matter of time until Hamlet snapped. The moment Hamlet finds out that his father has been killed Hamlet changes into a different type of person. Hamlet says, “O, from this time forth, My thoughts be bloody, or be nothing worth!” (5.4.66-67) At this point there is no thought in Hamlet’s head besides getting revenge for his own father’s death. Hamlet held a grudge against everyone he felt was suspicious of the murder. Hamlet felt that his uncle could have been the person that murdered his father just to get his mother and the king’s place. The death of Hamlet’s father led to the turning point in this play. The death of Hamlet’s father caused the play to become a dramatic and mysterious play.
