Hinduism is the major religion in India and has developed from the Vedic religion. Hinduism can be said to be an indigenous religious because it has been around for such a long time. This religion has been around longer than 2000 years and has been well developed throughout India. Hinduism is considered to be of the oldest religions and as long as it been around there has been no major changes dealing with the religion or the culture.
In the world religion book in the Hinduism chapter it states that “Vedas is a collection of over a thousand hymns of praises and supplication addressed to the gods, it is the oldest of the Rig Veda.” The language of the Vedic hymns was called Sanskrit. The hymns were not practiced by everyone they had to be memorized by a brahmin priest and then the priest has to go out to teach the men that comes after them. Although, there are four stages of life that are completely different. The first stage is when the man studies in the house of his teacher. He has to learn about his specific caste, learn the major portions of the Vedas, and also learn archery, medicine, astrology, and music. When the man has completed these things he can return to his household and explain to his children the traditional rites and raise his children the proper way. Men were suppose to respect their wives because once they are married they cannot get a divorce. After the man raise his children he must retreat to the forest to focus on spiritual matters. Living in the forest they can only eat wild foods and practice meditation. The last stage is when the man wander alone to a holy site to practice yoga. People do all of this so when they leave from the world their atman will be reincarnated into something else
