Just some 93 miles off of the southernmost point of the United States lies Cuba. Cuba is an island known for the most beautiful beaches and its crystal clear water. Most don’t know very much about Cuba. Majority, only know of its’ communistic tendencies and of past event involvement. What most people don 't understand, is what occurs everyday in Cuba. Cubans know the art of survival, which ultimately attributes to their quality of life.
Historically, Cuba is similar to that of the United States and others countries in South America. The only difference being that Cuba was the only to become a communist country. My father is cuban and lived during the dictatorship Fidel. My father was born in a small puebla, or town, called Camaguey. It always intrested me to know what a day in the life of my father as a child it Cuba. Upon interviewing him, I initiated by asking him what the average day in the small Puebla of Camaguey had in store for him. This city on the southeast end of the island, attributes for the main source of import and export of Cuban sugarcane and coffee. My father told me he would go to the port daily. He explained that the port consisted numerous, large cargo boats and ships. Growing up in Cuba, there was one thing that stood strong and that was to make ends meet by any means. My father’s job was to ask all the captains if they are in need of something. If my dad could make it available to them he would, as well as make agreements with them to be paid in return. The money my father would make would go towards funds for his whole family. During this time it was very difficult to provide for a family, and every effort my father had to make money he took very seriously because of the time that the Cubans were facing with. Communism did not allow for the average family to sustain life with the funds they received, it was because of my dad was they were able to make just a little
