The two poems had very different structure styles to help present their messages. Dulce Et Decorum Est has a structure that resembles a French ballad, having two sonnets with irregular spacing. The mournful and depressive tone in Homecoming gives the message and feeling of bringing dead soldiers home. The use of assonance helped slow the poem down, the slow poem shows the dull emotion Where as the irritated and angry tone of Dulce Et Decorum Est gives the message that Owen doesn’t agree with wars are that he believes that war is a waste. Again assonance was used to slow down the pace of the poem so the emotions are shown. The emotion of this poem expresses Owens feelings towards the war and how he bitterly and incisively criticizes those who promote war as glorious.
