It is unfortunate to see the ones who are supposed to help you, treating you as if you are something to be scared of and dehumanizing you. In order to stop this medical students should be educated on people with mental illness and how they should treat this population, therefore taking away the stigma and creating a new generation of mental health professionals that are prepared to work with people who have a mental illness. Psychologist, psychiatrist and anyone who may be working with someone who is mentally ill should be aware of their own biases, especially when it comes to cultural elements. It is mentioned by Sheri (2015) that studies show a negative relationship with religion and mental health. When practitioners work with a population that has a strong religious background they need to be aware of their own biases and not project those onto their clients because this can hurt the client more than it will help
