New Harvest...First Gathering was not received well by the general public, some feeling that Parton had taken the easy road into country music (Hamessley 2020, 32). Here You Come Again, Parton’s second venture into pop, however, was a commercial success with the title track “Here You Come Again” spending nineteen weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaking at number 3 (Billboard 2024). I personally consider this to be Parton’s first successful venture into Pop music, she blends country and pop to create a very successful album while still sounding essentially “Dolly.” While she may have had a successful venture into pop music with this album, Parton shares that she did not write a lot of the content on this album, she was told her compositions wouldn’t make it, “I wouldn’t want to get labeled with this slick production because my own songs are a lot gutsier and a lot more soulful. .
