INTRODUCTION The daughter of housewife Avie Lee Parton and tobacco farmer Robert Lee Parton, Dolly Rebecca Parton, came into this world on January 19, 1946, in Pittman Center, Tennessee. She spent her childhood in Sevierville, Tennessee. Beginning her television career at the tender age of twelve, she went on to perform at the Grand Ole Opry and record for a tiny label by the time she was thirteen years old. She relocated to Nashville to begin her career as a country singer in 1964, after finishing high school.
