To begin, in “The Ministers Black” by Nathaniel Hawthorne the minister was hiding the fact that he was having an affair with the maiden. This can be supported because in the story It says “I had a fancy, replied she, that the minister and the maiden's spirit were walking hand in hand. This can be supported because “One could also theorize that the sin that Mr. Hooper admonished himself over was the temptation or dalliance with a female. This type of behavior would prevent him from being able to disclose his sin to his fiancée and to hide his shame from the church and clergy”. Meaning that if he came to the temptation of the maiden he would not be able to tell his wife Elizabeth, which he didn’t. Some people may think or say that he didn’t want to disclose the meaning of the veil to his fiancé because he wanted her to find the meaning out by herself. This is not correct because he could have given her a hint of some sorts to help her figure out the reasoning behind the veil but he didn’t That is the debate about whether the minister has a secret sin or not and that is my stand on the topic and my evidence to support it. The minister did have a secret sin which is why he put on the veil and never took it off the day she died. He also made it very open his love for the lady and the minister not telling his wife raised suspension about the relationship. You should read the book and see what your stand would be on the
