A single sugar molecule, called Neu5Gc is not produces by humans but it is by other mammals. It has been found in high levels of cancerous tissues. Due to it not being produced by human’s shows that it comes from what we consume. Researchers measured how much Neu5Gc was in different foods and they found that red meats had the most. Researchers then took “humanized” mice that didn’t have the ability to make Neu5Gc and fed them an amount of mouse that equaled red meat. The mouse they fed them filled with Neu5Gc. It was fed to the mice for a period of 12 weeks. They also gave them injections of Neu5Gc antibodies to copycat what happens in human bodies. The researchers frequently found tumors in the liver but humans get cancer of the colon by eating a lot of red
