Do Red Meats Cause Cancer

Eating red meats has been found to develop a certain type of cancer. A new study shows that a sugar molecule in the flesh of beef, pork and lamb might activate an immune response in our bodied that cause inflammation. This inflammation is the cause of tumor growth. Mice exposed to this for a long time caused a five time increase in the chances of getting cancer. No one knew why eating red meats caused such a high risk of cancer. Humans are the only meat animals who have to worry about getting cancer due to eating red meats. Many theories are trying to show why red meats cause this trigger an immune response but they are short on proof.
A single sugar molecule, called Neu5Gc is not produces by humans but it is by other mammals. It has been found in high levels of cancerous tissues. Due to it not being produced by human’s shows that it comes from what we consume. Researchers measured how much Neu5Gc was in different foods and they found that red meats had the most. Meats like beef and pork had the most amount of sugar while poultry, fish, fruits and vegetables had the least amount.

Researchers then took “humanized” mice that didn’t have the ability to make Neu5Gc and fed them an amount of mouse that equaled red meat. The mouse they fed them filled with Neu5Gc. It was fed to the mice for a period of 12 weeks. They also gave them injections of Neu5Gc antibodies to copycat what happens in human bodies. The researchers frequently found tumors in the liver but humans get cancer of the colon by eating a lot of red
