Sexism. You hear the word pretty much everywhere you go. What sexism means to me is downgrading someone because of the gender that they are and for what they do because of their gender. Sexism happens just about anywhere. It can happen on a bus, it could happen at school, it can even happen in sports. The most common place you see sexism is in jobs. No matter what job you have, there will always be that one person who is sexist. Sexism doesn’t just happen to girls, it can happen to boys too. Most of the time you just hear about, it is about girls because boys are always told “suck it up” or “be a man”. According to Arsene Hodali, “boys are commonly shown less compassion than girls from an early age (among other things, boys are picked up after and slower than girls when they cry). But most men think it is okay to be sexist towards girls. You hear about girls being sexulised more because boys consider us women to be weaker and that we can only do certain things. For example, when the boys tell each other jokes about how a woman's job is in the kitchen (Ellie Gibbons bullet 3). But think about it, put a woman in a kitchen full of knives? If it takes two people to make a child, then why does only the mom get the kid? The father could take care of the child just as the mother could. One week the child is with their mother the next they are with their father. Or a few months with the mother and a few months with their father. Either way, the parents are going to take equal care of the child. Sometimes you hear about the father getting custody of the child, but the question is, does the mother pay for child support? You are always hearing the cases of the father paying child support, but you never hear the cases of the mother paying child support. If a father has to pay child support for his child(ren) for reasons such as; food, clothing, etc. Then the mother should have to pay the same amount because the father is now providing for all the food and clothing.
