Langston Hughes and Countee Cullen were some of the most famous figures of the renaissance. Although Cullen retired from writing early in his successful career he still inspired many. Now as for Hughes, he had a lasting impact after the renaissance had died. Still these two poets knew how to capture everyday life when they wrote. By writing, these two poets were loved by their fans and they inspired many people to write and live their dreams.
Many considered Countee Cullen to be a boy wonder. He graduated from New York University and Harvard University. His first book of poems was called Color. It was published in 1926, when he was only in his early 20s. He considered himself to be a Christian poet who wanted to inspire others to be proud to be black. He did not want to be known just as a black poet, but as a man who wanted to be seen as a part of the human race. In Cullen’s poem Yet do I Marvel he explained this well when he said,
