In1948, a new State was born in the Middle East, the State of Israel. After two thousand years, the Jews regained their sovereignty, through a challenging process. The Jews, which had suffered more than any other population during the Holocaust, were spread all over the world, many of them striving to recover from the World War II. The active presence of a leader that could motivate people towards a common goal of unification and the creation of a new county was essential to the Jewish people. David Ben-Gurion, leader of the Jewish community of Palestine and first Israel’s prime minister, has been a relevant, strategic leader. His superior leadership capabilities coordinated strategies, helped to focus human and material resources to gain authority within the international community, which enabled Israel to build their state. This paper will analyze the major characteristics of Ben-Gurion’s leadership, which highlight his extraordinary role throughout the last century and his impact on Jewish history. In particular, the focus will be on inspiring strategic influence on the Jews, the international and cultural awareness of the surrounding complex environment, and the unique leadership skills required as part of the transformational process that led to the foundation and consolidation of the State of Israel.
