There have been many influences in Israel’s history that have helped to establish the country as a homeland to the Jewish people. Among the many, Yitzhak Rabin, was one of the most influential leaders. Rabin was most known for his support of the existence of the state of Israel. He signifies a part of Israel’s ability to exist as an independent state and an important figure to the Middle East due to his support for Israel. Throughout Rabin’s life, he was an active member in the Jewish community, which led him to become Prime Minister of Israel leading the country to a victorious establishment of a state.
Yitzhak Rabin was born in Jerusalem, Israel in 1922. Throughout Rabin’s childhood he was raised in a Zionist household by his parents, Rosa and Nehemiah Rabin who were Ukrainian-Jewish immigrants. As a child, he excelled in school and had a promising future. As a teenager, Rabin joined the Palmach which was the “underground” army and the commanding force of the Yishuv and was a soldier for 27 years. Eventually Rabin went through the ranks to become the Chief of Operations during the War of Independence in Israel. The Chief of Operations is someone who oversees all operations and decides where to go next. He led the IDF's Operations Directorate from 1959 to 1963. His job was to lead the directorate through the trainings and different policies along with overseeing the building of military bases. Also in the IDF, he acted as Chief of the General Staff. With that, he oversaw Israel's victory in the 1967 Six-Day War.
