In “Salvation” there is impact on children that causes them to loss faith. Hughes goes to his Aunt Reed’s church to pray and be saved from his sins. Hughes states, “My aunt told me that when you were saved you saw a light, and something happened to you inside! And Jesus came into your life!” (Hughes pg.203). Hughes believes his aunt’s description of being saved and wants to experience to see Jesus. His aunt and people in church wanted him to go to his church and be saved. The preacher said, “Would not you come? Would not you come to see Jesus?” (pg. 204) Hughes does not want to look down in front of his aunt and people in church and lied on all of them. Hughes did not want to look like a lamb left out in the cold. This shows the fear of being rejected from the people which sometimes you have to make people believe your lies in something that really did not happen. Hughes lies rather than getting in trouble. He overlooks to lie and meets the expectations and rules of his aunt and people in church that has on him. The story presents of how people confirm things to show
