Booker T. Washington vs. W.E.B. Dubois

Booker T. Washington and W.E.B Dubois were both very important men in World History, the rivalry between them was well known. Booker T. Washington was very popular figure, he maintained that African Americans could achieve economic progress and spiritual growth but only by accepting the confines of Jim Crow (African Americans”). Dubois on the other hand attacked Washington’s concepts publicly and drew attention to the importance of equality for African Americans in all aspects of life (“African Americans”). Booker T. Washington was born into slavery around 1586, he grew up during the time of the Civil War. Booker worked hard growing up he learned how to read and write, Booker had heard of college and wanted to attend (“US History Don 't Know Much About History - Everything You Need to Know” (2010). He ended up graduating from the Hampton Institute, then Booker was asked to open a new school for black students in Tuskegee. Alabama called the Tuskegee Institute. When he arrived in 1881 the school didn 't have any buildings or school supplies, but it did have plenty of eager students. At first Booker was the only teacher and he taught class in a church.
