The Complete Maus Summary
Maus was basically about a comic book author writing a comic novel on his father's account of World War 2 and the Holocaust. This book was written by Art Spiegelman, who was the interviewer of his father-Vladek Spiegelman. Maus commence with Vladek discussing how he met and fell in love with his first wife- Anja Spiegelman. Throughout the book, Vladek was currently married to Mala- a woman whom he argues with mostly over money, later she takes money from his account and leave him. In the end, they get back together though. Later on, Vladek marries Anja; she was rich and her father helped Vladek start his own factory. They have a son named Richeu. Avoiding it once, he starved himself but was drafted the second time. In battlefield, he was captured by a German and was a war prisoner. Vladek finally comes home by being basically smuggled by a polish on a train. The Holocaust began and vladek and Anja were drafted into it. During this time period, Vladek lost his factory and loved ones such as Richeu. Also, they were tricked and lied to by multiple people which nearly got them murdered, starved, and separated several times. They were seperated for the longest time. when they were deceived by 2 smugglers, who convinced them they would get them to Hungary. Both Anja and Vladek were separated and sent to a hard life in Auschwitz. They were very lucky to survive, for example, Anja was very specifically mistreated by a guard and nearly died several times. Also Vladek made friends with a guard by teaching him english, he used this to see Anja which he was nearly busted for. By the end of the book, when the war was ending Vladek was forced to march. He caught several diseases like typhus, during this time he did not know if Anja was alive. After the Americans invaded, Vladek worked in a general store and found out
