Blood Disorders
Blood is one of the most essential elements within the body. Blood is made up of plasma, red blood cells, and platelets. Blood is vital to the body functioning correctly, and it is important to understand that there are many types of blood disorders that can cause people to get sick. While there are many different types of blood disorders out there, this paper is going to cover three which are, anemia, sickle cell, and thrombocytopenia. Also, a review of plasma, red blood cells, and platelets to give a better understand of blood disorders.

The first scenario and blood disorder we are going to look at is anemia. A 4-year-old little Caucasian girl has been complaining of being tired all the time. She a picky eater and pale in color. Her mother is a single mom that does not have a lot of money to feed her large family. The little girl Lily only eats bread, pasta, and hot dogs, and she only drinks artificial punch. Lily is suffering from iron deficiency anemia.
Iron deficiency anemia is when there is a lack of healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen to the body’s tissues. This type of anemia is often referred to as a nutritional disorder. Some symptoms of Iron deficiency anemia are extreme fatigue, pale skin, poor appetite, and shortness of breath. Lily is showing symptoms for this type of anemia. In children, this disorder can cause developmental delays, increased infections, and failure to thrive. Treatment for Iron deficiency anemia is an iron replacement ("Mayo Clinic", 2015). To prevent this from happening again, lily needs to have an iron-fortified diet. She has poor eating habits and needs to change that and add more meat, poultry, and vegetables. Her mother can reach out to programs in their area that can help supplement healthy food.
