Paul D finds himself falling in love with Sethe and he feels compelled to distance himself from Sethe. Without knowing why, he stops sleeping in Sethe’s bed and sleeping on a rocking chair,Baby Sugg’s double bed,the storeroom and finally he decides to sleep in the cold house behind the main house they lived in. Suddenly, Beloved sneaks out and demands he, “Touch her on the inside path and call me my name.” Paul D at first felt reluctant to touch beloved because he doesn’t have that mindset of putting girls in danger. However, Beloved sees her again and says, “Red Heart,Red Heart, Red Heart,”(117) which kind of reminds us of The Shining (1980) when the boy says , “ Red rum, Red rum, Red rum, Red rum,”It’s shameful that Beloved is able to be spiritually strong enough to take man out of their spouses bed and manipulate them to have intercorse and on top of that don’t know when to stop doing what you are doing. This is why Paul D isn’t mentally able to hold himself to better standards and not inept to put your foot down and get yourself together to stop your downward spiral which includes of him not learning how to be a man,which isn’t his fault, but he has to teach himself somewhere down the
