The legalization of Marijuana in the United States has been a political topic for many years. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been postponing the legalization of weed because researchers have not conducted enough large-scale clinical trials that show that the benefits of the marijuana plant (as opposed to its cannabinoid ingredients THC and CBD) outweigh its risks in patients it is meant to treat. The Government has failed to control the use and production of marijuana. Cannabis is used in certain states for medical uses; Currently, the two main chemicals from the marijuana plant that are of medical interest are THC and CBD. THC increases appetite and reduces nausea. THC may also decrease pain, inflammation (swelling and redness), and muscle control problems. CBD is a cannabinoid that does not affect the mind or behavior. It may be useful in reducing pain and inflammation, controlling epileptic seizures, and possibly even treating mental illness and addictions. These uses for Medicinal Marijuana could help many people with disabilities and disease, being that marijuana is only legalized in certain states and you have to have Medicare to attain it, legalizing cannabis will allow people that don’t have Medicare to grow their own product which can help with these
