The famous novel was published in 1925 and takes place during the Prohibition Era, which lasted from 1920 to 1933. Narrated by Nick Carraway, the novel includes the characters Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby is a lonely man in West Egg who shows off his wealth is famous for hosting extravagant parties every week, and Daisy is a wealthy, careless woman in East Egg who is married to and has a daughter with Tom Buchanan. One of the admirable traits of Gatsby is how faithful he is. Though he spent four years without her, he loved no one but Daisy. From the moment they kissed, he spent his entire life committed to one woman: Daisy. In addition to that, he risked his life and freedom to protect her when he took the blame for killing Myrtle, even though he knew it would ruin his life. The fact that he would do all of this shows how attached he is to Daisy and what he would do to show that. However, the most admirable characteristic is how persevering he is. He was a poor boy and assistant to Dan Cody. When Cody passed away, Gatsby went back to poverty, but became dedicated to his objective of becoming successful and wealthy. He became so dedicated that he had a schedule set out that focused on bettering his mind and improving his etiquette. Eventually, he reaches his dream of success and becomes a wealthy man, living in West Egg across the bay from Daisy.
