Power Groups
effective interest group strongly linked with legislators and bureaucrats for the purpose of influencing decision making
Interest Group
organization that seeks to influence government officials and their policies on behalf of members sharing common views and objectives (e.g., labor union or trade association).
Lobbying
Communicating with legislators or other government officials on behalf of an interest group for the purpose of influencing decision makers.
Umbrella organizations
Provides resources and often an identity to the smaller organizations.
Passive majority
Primarily people from professional and managerial occupations.
“Right to Work” laws
Agreements between labor unions and employers, that govern the extent to which an established union can require employees' membership, payment of union dues, or fees as a condition of employment, either before or after hiring.

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that this right is part of the right of assembly guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and that it protects the right of people to organize into groups for political purposes.
