Social learning theory Albert bandura

Suggests that children will copy and take on characteristics of their parents

if parents are happy outgoing and friendly children will be more likely to develop similar characteristics

Attachment Theory

Suggest that children's main need is to have a strong and stable relationship with their primary caregiver - usually parents

-their ability to develop and relate to others is dependent on how secure their relationship is

-as long as a close relationship exists with someone their social and emotional development will be secure

- bonding essential - once bond is built the child will want to stay close to them and may suffer separation anxiety if the adult leaves (upset or distress because they think that I don't will not come back)

-need to form several attachments for successful social and emotional development

The psychoanalytic theory

Believe that children's personalities and behavior are shaped both consciously and unconsciously by their experiences at different stages of the development and how they cope with the experiences
