What is Air!

Air is mixture of different colourless and useful gases,it has no taste and smell,it has weight and takes up space.

What are components of air?

Nitrogen, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, Water Vapour and Argon.

Nitrogen, Oxygen and other gases take up how much percentage of air?

79, 20 and 1

What happens when we breathe in Air?

Respiratory cells utile Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide

What is Air pressure?

The layer that surrounds the earth and presses down on the earth.

What measure Air pressure?

Barometer

Three temperature of air?

Cool,warm and hot.

What is atmosphere?

A layer of gases that surrounds the earth which consists of Air,water and other substances.

What does the atmosphere do?

It acts as shield against sun rays.

Why do plants need Carbon Dioxide?

To make food.

What is photosynthesis?

Is the use of sunlight, water , Air and chlorophyll to make food.

Explain fresh air?

It's cool and clean, it contains plenty of oxygen that our bodies use.

Uses of Air.

Brings sound to ear

Used for transportation

Make music

Recreational Activities

Source of Energy

Dry clothes

Burning of fire ( Air as Oxygen)

Air used in emergencies.

Artificial Respiration - is giving of air to someone who is stop breathing. Eg.CPR

What is Air pollution?

Anything added to air that does not belong, making it unsafe to breathe.

Sources of Air pollution - Artificial Pollutants

Main source of Air pollution - waste from

Aeroplane

Vehicles

Ships

Melting of metals

Burning garbage

Chemical sprays

Natural Pollutants

Dust or sand

Pollen from plants

Salt from sea

Gas from volcanoes

How is global warming caused?

Caused by gas in the atmosphere that causes the world to get warmer

Name two uses of carbon dioxide.

Add fizz to drinks

Prevent heat loss from the earth

Where is Water found?

It is found in rain, clouds, sea ,river, lakes, soil, plants and animals.

Talk about water.

Water is odourless and colorless

Does not have its own shape

Covers 70% of the earth

2/3 of the human body is Water.

How do humans loose water?

From sweat, urine, faeces .

Water is needed by Animals to :

Help in making blood

Maintain body temperature

Helps with removal of waste

What 3 states does water appears in?

Solid,liquid and gas

What is the formula for water?

H2O

Two ways in which Water is useful to the body?

Drinking

Bathing

Ways in which Water becomes polluted.

Throwing garbage in the Sea or ocean

Oil spills

Waste products from factories

Ways to reduce pollution.

Use reusable containers

Get rid of garbage correctly

Don't throw garbage in drains

Use natural fertilizer

Recycle

Help to clean up

Use fewer chemicals

What are rocks?

Rocks are solid materials which come from the crust of the earth.

How are rocks formed?

They are formed by heat or pressure in the earth by action of water.

What are rocks made from?

All rocks are made from minerals, pebbles ,soils and fossils.

What are fossils?

Remains from dead plants and animals.

What are the properties of rocks?

There colors, shapes and textures.

Who is a Geologist?

A scientist who studies rocks, minerals and soils.

Name 3 types of rocks.

Sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks.

How are igneous rocks formed ?

Are formed when molten magma cools and hardens or when lava cools on the surface.

What is lava?

Is molten rock material that reach the earths surface.

What builds a volcano?

Harden lava.

Description of Igneous rocks.

They are usually hard

Most are smooth and shiny

Some proud with air holes

What rocks can form Crystals?

Igneous rocks

Graphite Rocks

Are smooth with large or small specks.

How are Crystals formed?

When magna stays below the earth and cools slowly.

Basalt Rocks

Are hard and dark colored

Basalt is formed from lava that cools slowly on the earths surface.

This result in tiny mineral in the rock.

Obsidian Rocks

Looks shiny and feels smooth like glass.

Its formed from lava that cools very quickly on the earth surface

Sedimentary rocks

Are layered rocks that are made up of particles and sediments that settle on each other.

Description of Sedimentary rocks.

Vary widely in color, texture and hardness.

Texture maybe course or fine depending on the size of then rock particles.

Eg. Sedimentary Rocks

Sandstone, limestone ,shale and breccia.

Some Sedimentary rocks are formed from minerals that crystalize and form rocks like Flint and gypsum.

Eg Metamorphic Rocks

Marble

What is Water borne diseases?

Diseases caused by polluted water. Eg. Cholera, dysentery, typhoid and poliomyelitis.

What are Air borne Diseases?

Diseases that are spread through the Air. Normally affects the nose and the lungs. Eg common cold, influenza, chicken pox, mumps and small pox.

List things to prevent spreading Air borne diseases.

Use air filters, do not smoke ,do not breathe in polluted Air

Examples of Igneous rocks

Obsidian, granite, basalt, pumice and gabbro.

Meaning of Igneous?

Produced under conditions involving intense heat.

What is metamorphic rock?

They begin as Sedimentary or Igneous rocks.

The change is a result of heat and pressure.

Becoming metamorphic there structure and color change. .eg limestone change to marble

What is soil?

Soil has air, water and matter .

What is humus?

Its decayed plants and animals.

Humus gives soil a dark color and also provide nutrients that plants and animals need.
