Social Psychology
The scientific study of the way in which peoples thoughts, feelings and behaviors (Effects) are influenced by the real or imagined presence of other people (Causes).

Focussed on the individual (versus groups of people like sociologists)
Social Influence
the effect that the words, actions, or mere presence of other people have on our thoughts, feelings, attitudes or behaviors
Social Interpretations
to understand social influence it is more important to understand how people perceive and interpret the social world that it is to understand that world objectively

Construal refers to the world as the individual interprets it

Social psychologists are interested in the origins of these construals

ex. watching football game with rival team friend, flags
Naive Realism

-sense of self centeredness
-sports teams, political parties opinions, nationalism
Intuitions/Common Sense are Often Faulty
always exceptions to every rule, sayings that everyone knows, depends on the situation. ex. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder vs. Out of sight, out of mind."
Hindsight Bias
Once we learn something to be true we say of course it's true, of course you knew that.
