What are the 5 components of the SAR system |
Organization, resources, communications, emergency SAR, and documentation |
Three primary geo graphic divisions of the national SAR system |
Inland: air force Maritime: coast guard Overseas: unified commanders |
Uncorrelated distress |
Distress broadcast that does not include position or identification info so there is not enough information to generate a search area. |

Track spacing |
Is the distance between two adjacent parallel search legs. |
Expanding square |
Small area when some doubt exists about the distress position. Provides more uniform coverage than Sector search. |
Parallel search |
Used for large search areas, approximate position is known, uniform coverage is desired. |
Creeping line search |
Follows minor axis used to cover one end of of an area first usually where one end of the search area has debris on one end and not the other. |
Four divisions of maritime SAR |
