An intentional disclosure of secret information.
Censorship
The practice of officially examining books, movies, etc., and suppressing unacceptable parts.
Muckraking
the action of searching out and publicizing scandalous information about famous people in an underhanded way.
Scoop
a piece of news published by a newspaper or broadcast by a television or radio station in advance of its rivals.
Yellow Journalism
journalism that is based upon sensationalism and crude exaggeration.
ex. ellow journalism helped to push Spain and the United States into war in 1898. The Maine, a US battleship, sunk from an explosion. Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst published false articles about a plot to sink the ship, thereby increasing tensions.
Referendum
a general vote by the electorate on a single political question that has been referred to them for a direct decision.
Voter registration
Voter registration is the requirement in some democracies for citizens and residents to check in with some central registry specifically for the purpose of being allowed to vote in elections
Electoral College (and how it works)
(in the US) a body of people representing the states of the US, who formally cast votes for the election of the president and vice president.
ie. the presidential election is really decided by the votes of the Electoral College.
Faithless elector
United States presidential elections, a faithless elector is a member of the United States Electoral College who, for whatever reason, does not vote for the presidential or vice presidential candidate for whom he or she had pledged to vote

What a citizen is responsible for doing, ie voting.
