What does acid+metal turn into? |
Salt+hydrogen |
What does repeatable mean? |
The investigation can be repeated by the same person, method and equipment, obtaining the same results |
What does reproducible mean? |
The investigation is repeated by a different person using different equipment leaving the same results to be obtained. |
How does displacement affect metal? |
A more reactive metal can displace a less reactive metal from a compound |
What does O. I. L. R. I. G stand for? |
Oxidation Is Loss Reduction Is Gain |
When does oxidisation occur and what ions are formed |
Oxidisation occurs when jobs lose electrons therefore metals are oxidises to form positive ions |
What happens when reduction occurs and what ions form? |
Reduction occurs when jobs gain elections therefore non metals are reduced to form negative ion |
What has to be included in an ionic equation? |
Ionic charges must be included and state symbols need to be too |
What is the equivalence point? |
The equivalence line is the point where the number of moles of acid exactly equals the number of moles of base |
What does acid form when they dissolve in water? |
The form H+ ions which is a hydrogen atom that has lost it’s electron. In other words, it’s and electron. |
What is the difference between strong and weak acid, with examples? |
Strong: 100% ionised in water, HCL Weak: Only partially ionised in water H2CO3 |
What is the definition of acid? |
When dissolved in water, it’s solution has a pH value less than seven. Acids are proton donors. |
What is the definition of an alkali? |
It’s solution has a pH value more than 7. |
What is a base? |
The oxide, hydroxide, or carbonate of a metal that with react with an acid, forming a salt as one of the products. Bases are proton acceptors. |
What is a displacement reaction? |
A reaction in which a more reactive element takes the place of a less reactive element in one or its compounds or in solution. |
What is electrolysis? |
The breakdown of a substance containing ions by electricity. |
What is a half equation? |
An equation that describes reduction or oxidisation. |
What is an ionic equation? |
An equation that shows only those ions or atoms that change in a chemical reaction. |
What is equilibrium? |
The point in which a reversible reaction at which the forward and backward rates of reaction are the same. |
What is a strong acid? |
These acids completely ionised in aqueous solutions |
What is a weak acid? |
Acids that do not ionised completely in aqueous solutions |
What is the pH scale? |
A number which shows how strongly acidic or alkaline a solution is? |
What is the reactivity series? |
A list of elements in order of their reactivity |
