Juvenile sex offender

Juvenile should be in sex offender specific therapy using the cognitive behavioral model. A multi modal approach, focusing on Parental / family and development concerns, is effective in conjunction with the cognitive behavioral model. Polygraphs are utilized for juveniles; however, they are to be purpose driven and not to be overused or misuse. Most experts do not recommend their use on children under the age of 13 in children with severe learning disabilities.

The majority of sexual offenders are caught, convicted, and in prison.



Most sex offenders reoffend.



Sex offenders commit sexual crimes because they are under the influence of alcohol.



Most sexual assaults are committed by strangers.



Juvenile sex offenders typically are victims of child sexual abuse and grow up to be adult sex offenders.



Treatment for sex offenders is ineffective.

List the six best practices for supervising juvenile sex offenders

1. Juvenile should not reside in the same household with their victim or with younger children.


2. Juvenile should not reside in the same neighborhood as a victim.


3. The victim should not be removed from the home. DCS group homes and shelter should be utilized to provide housing if no location is available. It is important to note that an offender should not be in a group home where there are children two or more years younger. Perpetrators of sexual abuse are also at a greater risk to be victimized by other children and group homes.


4. No contact with children more than one year younger without direct adult supervision. Healthy development includes involvement with same age peers


5. Do not inquire with the victim or younger children their perceived safety as it puts undue pressure on them.


6. When supervising a juvenile whose adjudicated of a title 13, chapter 14 sexual offense, and sure that you notify the school district office. The juvenile will be enrolling in their District. It is a responsibility of the district to notify the school of enrollment.
