what are Injuries that cause a break in the skin, underlying soft tissue, or other body membrane
wounds
what are the most common injuries seen in a first-aid setting?
soft tissue injuries
what are the 2 types of fractures?

A closed fracture does not produce an open wound in the skin.

An open fracture produces an open wound in the skin

what is the treatment for an open fracture on the forearm?

-stop bleeding and treat wound

-apply sterile dressing over wound, and carefully straighten the forearm.

-Apply a pneumatic splint or two well-padded splints to the forearm(elbow to wrist), one on top and one on the bottom.

-Secure the arm against the body with a wide sling and a cravat bandage.

use a well padded splint on the outside of the arm. The splint should extend from the shoulder to the elbow. Fasten arm securely to the body and support with a narrow sling.

treatment for open fracture near the elbow?

-stop bleeding, dress wound

do not attempt to straighten or move it in any way. Splint the elbow in the position found unless there is no radial pulse, then just a small amount of traction should be applied to regain blood flow.

treatment of upper leg fracture?

If the fracture is open, stop the bleeding by treating the wound first. Carefully straighten the leg. Apply two splints. The outside splint should reach from the armpit to the foot. The inside splint should reach from the crotch to the foot.

treatment for lower leg fracture?

If the fracture is open, stop the bleeding by treating the wound first. Carefully straighten injured leg, then apply a pneumatic splint. If pneumatic splint is not available apply three splints, one on each side of the leg, and one on the bottom (make sure splints are well padded). Treat for shock and transport.

treatment for knee- cap fracture?

Straighten leg and place a padded board underneath leg. Board must be at least 4" wide and reach from the buttocks to the heel

treatment for jaw fracture?

If the fractured jaw interferes with breathing then pull the lower jaw and tongue well forward and keep them in that position. Apply a four tailed bandage. Be sure that bandage pulls jaw forward. Be sure that patient has scissors or a knife to cut bandage in case of vomiting. Treat for shock and transport.

treatment for rib fracture?

Rib fractures are not bound, strapped, or taped if victim is reasonable comfortable. If splinting is needed then the arm on the injured side is strapped to the chest to limit motion.

treatment for nose fracture?

Stop nose bleed, have victim sit quietly, with head tipped slightly backwards. Tell victim to breath through his mouth. If bleeding does not stop within a few minutes apply a cold compress or ice bag over the nose.

treatment for skull fracture?

Keep victim lying down. Always treat wound first with direct pressure (be careful if skull is fractured). If face is flushed then raise head and shoulders slightly. If face is pale then have victim stay even with body. Watch for vomiting while victim is lying flat.

treatment for spine fracture?

Prevent shock, keep patient warm, and prevent further injury by limited to no movement. Keep victim lying flat, and do not attempt to lower head. Place on spine board and transport as soon as possible.

treatment for shoulder fracture?

If fracture is open, stop flow of blood and treat wound before treating fracture. Then apply a sling and swath splint. Bend victims arm on the injured side, and place the forearm across chest. The palm of the hand should be turned in, with the thumb pointing up. The hand should be raised about four inches above the elbow.

What help planners determine which assets are critical to a unit’s mission and which are most vulnerable to attack?

CRITICALITY AND VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENTS

The vulnerability of an asset or area is determined by assessing what three components?

-Construction (e.g., type, quality)

-Accessibility

-Recognizability (e.g., aircraft carrier at pierside as opposed to a small building that contains research material).

The prevention portion of any AT/FP plan should include the following minimum elements that work in concert to reduce the vulnerability of a ship, unit, aircraft, or installation to terrorist attack:

-Terrorism threat assessment

-Vulnerability assessment

-Risk assessment

-AT physical security measures

-Terrorist incident response measures

-Terrorist consequence management measures

What is the proactive phase of ATFP planning?

encompasses the planning, resourcing, preventive measures, preparation, awareness education, and training that takes place before a terrorist incident

What is the reactive phase of ATFP planning?

The reactive phase includes the tactics, techniques, and procedures to be utilized by a unit to defeat a terrorist attack, as well as crisis and consequence management actions taken to resolve a terrorist incident

List the force protection conditions and a brief description.

Normal: possible threat; routine security procedures

Alpha: possible threat; unpredictable; circumstance don't justify Bravo

When establishing ECP personnel will...

Place barriers so they are sufficient to stop or slow most vehicles

Place serpentine obstacles inside the gate between the contact sentry and the cover sentry.

Locate barriers at a distance from the critical asset

Establish separate personnel and vehicle inspection areas

Establish hardened positions for ECP watch standers

Ensure the cover sentry’s position is, at a minimum

Establish primary and secondary forms of communication between the ECP and protected asset

Conduct a test drill to determine how much time ECP sentries and the reaction force have to respond to any ECP security breach.
