Daubert Guidelines are |
a means of determining standards for the admission of scientific evidence in federal court |
5 Daubert criteria |
- The theory can be/has been tested - It has been subjected to peer review and publication - A known potential error rate - Standards that control it’s operation - Widespread acceptance within the scientific community |
Blowfly lifecycle |
- Fly lands on decomposing body and begins to feed - Fly lays eggs within 6-40 hours - 1st instar larva stage(small) - 2nd instar larva stage(medium maggot) - 3rd instar larva stage(large maggot)- eats the most - Pupae leaves body and becomes fly-- and the cycle begins again if flesh is left |
Mapping remains |
- First establish a datum point close to the remains, place on a permanent structure - Once datum point is established the area around the body will be marked with a gridsquare to provide a frame for mapping findings - Set up at least a 10x15 foot square usingwooden post at each corner - Orient sides of square using NSE & W - Use tape measure to locate/annotate bones in relation to sub datum point (a corner of the square)and photograph |
Initial treatment of bones |
- Initial exam look for evidence of trauma and postmortem damage -Bulk soft tissue removal radiograph and then use scalpel and tissue scissor to remove the bulk of the tissue remaining. (Use care when getting closer to the bone.) - Disarticulation separate articulated bones for further processing. (Care mustbe taken to prevent damage to the bones.) - Residual soft tissue removal, bones will be placed in vats for maceration of remaining tissue. (Room temperature water can be used with or without enzymatic additive. Replacing water periodically can speed up the process.) - Stabalization for safe handling |
Human sets of teeth |
Adult/Permanent total is 32-- 8 incisors, 4 canine, 8 pre molars and 12 molars. Deciduous dentition total is 20—8incisors, 4 canine and 8 molars. |

Limbs and pelvis |
Autolysis |
termused to describe degeneration of body tissue by the normal digestive fluid inintestine. |
Putrefaction |
microorganismnormally in the body tissue begin to beak down biological components of thebody. |
Ischium pubic index |
Pubiclength/ischium length x 100 Unknown ancestry Below84% is male, above 94% is female. In between is unknown. |
Superior Inferior |
up,point lays above another point Down, point lays belowanother point |
Anterior Posterior |
front of body back of body |
Medial Lateral |
point lying closest to midline of body point lying away from midline of the body |
Proximal Distal |
where the appendage joins the body furthest from the point of attachment to the body |
