What is 'stigma'?

Stigma is when you say or do something that will effect someones feelings in a bad way.

Why can Stigma have such a negative effect on a person?

They can take what you said to heart, and when they see someone laughing when they walk by, that person may feel they are laughing at them.

Why is it important to reduce stigma?

I don't think it is important to reduce stigma because it builds character, and later on it makes you emotionally stronger.

How can we accomplish this?

Watching your language (saying the 'R' word and calling someone stupid, or dumb, or Bi-polar)

What is the difference between Stereotyping,prejudice,and discrimination?

Stereotyping is when you say "That girl is retarded." So you are making that statement.


Prejudice is when some agrees and says "Yeah, she does sound/look retarded."


Discrimination is when someone says I dont like people with Mental illnesses therefore I will not hire them nor hang around them."

What is the difference between 'Mental Health' and 'Mental Illness'?

Mental health is something everyone has/gets. It doesn't happen everyday, but it happens when bad situations happen. For example if someone in your family dies and you feel really depressed, and no motivated. Mental Illness is when there is something wrong with you everyday of your life, and it wears you as if it we a blanket.

What are the main functions of the brain?

Thinking-Memory


Emotion-Reactions (sad,happy,worried,scared)


signalling (how to handle a situation)


Physical - Breathing system


Behaviour- talking,sitting etc.
