what is the sclera ? |
Whitefibrous tissue which is transparent to let in light which is constantly replaced |
what structure is anterior to the sclera |
the cornea |
describe the cornea |
transparent allows light rays inside the eye. |
what area lies posterior to the cornea |
aqueous liquid |
what is the second layer of the eye , describe it . |
the choroid, a highly vascularisedlayer continuous with the Iris and ciliary muscles |
what makes up 80% of the eye |
the vitreous liquid |
the thickness of what muscle affects the focus of the eyes |
ciliary muscle |
what is the retina |
innermost layer of the retina of the eye which is photosensitive |
what structures are part of the retina ? |
optic nerve and photoreceptors |
what is macula? |
small are at the back of eye responsible for central vision |
what region is responsible for peripheral vision |
area around the macula |
What is the fovea |
central region of the macula. it is highly vascularised |
what is the optic disk ? |
a region at the back of the eye which is the origin of blood vessels and exit of the optic nerve |
why is the optic nerve AKA the blind spot? |
it contains no photoreceptors |
how do we see images ? |
• Light hits cornea --> travels through the pupil --> hits lens which bends the light --> peripheral visual info hits nasal retinae & central info hits central retinae? --> Central info travels ipsilaterally to the LGN and peripheral info travels contralaterally to LGN crossing at the optic chiasm -->information then goes to the primary visual cortex in the occipital lobe.
